Prayer of thanksgiving

Blessed are you, Lord God of our salvation,

As a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief

that he might draw the whole world to himself.
May we walk this day in the way of the cross
and always be ready to share its weight,
declaring your love for all the world.

Concerning the prophets:
My heart within me is broken.
All my bones shake.
I am like a drunken man,
and like a man whom wine has overcome,
because of the LORD,
and because of his holy words.
“For the land is full of adulterers;
for because of the curse the land mourns.
The pastures of the wilderness have dried up.
Their course is evil,
and their might is not right;
for both prophet and priest are profane.
Yes, in my house I have found their wickedness,” says the LORD.
Therefore their way will be to them as slippery places in the darkness.
They will be driven on,
and fall therein;
for I will bring evil on them,
even the year of their visitation,” says the LORD.

“I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria.
They prophesied by Baal,
and caused my people Israel to err.
In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing:
they commit adultery and walk in lies.

John 12:12-19

The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it. For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign. The Pharisees therefore said amongst themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”

Luke 1:68-79

The word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has visited and redeemed his people;
and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David
(as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),
salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;

Let us unite in this historic confession of the Christian faith:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
