Prayer of thanksgiving

Blessed are you, Lord God of our salvation, to you be praise and glory forever. As once you ransomed your people from Egypt and led them to freedom in the promised land, so now you have delivered us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your risen Son. May we, the first fruits of your new creation, rejoice in this new day you have made, and praise you for your mighty acts.

Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God forever.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.

Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them through the way of the land of the Philistines, although it was nearby. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the Israelites solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely attend to you, and you shall carry my bones away from here with you.”

They took their journey from Sukkoth and camped in Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. The LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night. He did not remove the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to the Israelites, so that they turn and camp before Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. Opposite it you shall camp by the sea. But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? With what body do they come?” You fool! What you sow is not made alive unless it dies. Exodus 12:37-51

Then the Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children. A mixed multitude also went up with them along with flocks and herds, a large amount of livestock. They baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened because they were driven out of Egypt and could not linger, nor had they prepared for themselves any food.

Now the sojourning of the Israelites who lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. And at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, on the very day, all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be observed to the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt. This is that night for the LORD to be observed by all the Israelites in their generations.

So the LORD said to Moses and Aaron: This is the ordinance of the Passover:

No foreigner may eat of it. But every man’s servant bought with money, when you have circumcised him, may eat it. A foreigner or a hired servant shall not eat it.

In one house shall it be eaten. You shall not carry any of the flesh outside of the house, nor shall you break a bone of it. All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.

Now when a stranger sojourns with you and keeps the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it. And he shall be as one who is born in the land. However, no uncircumcised person shall eat of it. The same law shall apply to him that is a native and to the stranger who sojourns among you.

So all the Israelites did it. They did just as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron. And that same day the LORD brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward, those who are Christ’s at His coming. Then comes the end when He will deliver up the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He will reign until He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For He “has put all things under His feet.” But when He says, “all things are put under Him,” it is revealed that He, who has put all things under Him, is the exception. When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
