Make haste to help me, O LORD!
Prayer of thanksgiving
Blessed are you, Lord God, creator of day and night: to you be praise and glory forever. As darkness falls, you renew your promise to reveal among us the light of your presence. By the light of Christ, your living Word, dispel the darkness of our hearts that we may walk as children of light and sing your praise throughout the world.
Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God forever.
That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.

As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise now and forever.

Seek the LORD while He may be found,

but my anguish grew worse.

My heart was hot within me.
While I was musing, the fire burned;
then I spoke with my tongue:
“LORD, let me know my end,
and what is the measure of my days,
that I may know how frail I am.
Behold, You have made my days as a few handbreadths,
and my age is as nothing before You.
Surely every man at his best is as a mere breath.”
Surely every man walks around like a shadow;
surely they make an uproar in vain;
he heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them.

I waited patiently for the LORD,
and He turned to me and heard my cry.

Zechariah 13
On that day there will be a spring opened up for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and impurity.
And on that day, says the LORD of Hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will not be remembered any more. And I will also remove from the land the prophets and the unclean spirit. And it will be if a man again prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say, “You will not live because you speak deception in the name of the LORD.” Then when he prophesies, his father and mother will pierce him through.
On that day each prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he prophesies. He will not put on a robe of coarse hair in order to deceive. But he will say, “I am not a prophet. I am a man who works the ground, for a man purchased me when I was young.” If someone asks, “What are these wounds on your arms?” he will say, “I was struck in the house of my close friends.”
“Awake, O sword, against My shepherd
and the man of My association,”
says the LORD of Hosts.
Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will scatter.
I will turn My hand against the small ones.

that two-thirds will be cut off and die,

Mark 12:1-12
He began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit for the winepress, and built a tower, and rented it to vinedressers, and went to a far country. At harvest time he sent a servant to the vinedressers to receive from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Then he sent another servant to them. They threw stones at him, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. Still he sent another, and they killed him. And there were many others. Some they beat, and some they killed.
“Having yet his one well-beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will revere my son.’
“But those vinedressers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.
“What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill the vinedressers and give the vineyard to others. Have you not read this Scripture:
‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This was the Lord’s doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’ ?”
Then they tried to seize Him, but feared the people, for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went their way.

Luke 1:46-55
My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded
the low estate of His servant.

The Apostle’s Creed
Let us unite in this historic confession of the Christian faith:
I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.

God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit upon your Church in the burning fire of your love: grant that your people may be fervent in the fellowship of the gospel that, always abiding in you, they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

The Lord’s Prayer
As our Savior taught us, so we pray
